This year’s US Open finals are a competition between the best of the best. #1 seed Serena Williams faced #2 Victoria Azarenka in the women’s singles finals last night. In the men’s singles, #1 Novak Djokovic is currently battling #2 Rafael Nadal live. (Watch it live: http://www.usopen.org/index.html )
The men’s doubles winners this year were Paes and Stepanek. The women’s doubles winners were Hlavackova and Hradecka who defeated the Williams sisters in the semifinals.
My favorite match of the tournament was Djokovic vs. Wawrinka. While Djokovic is an incredible player, it was cool to see Wawrinka play at his level and almost beat him. I was rooting for the underdog, so it was a little disappointing to see him lose.. (Interesting thing to think about…Wawrinka got farther in the tournament than Federer. For the women’s singles, the final last night was a deja-vu moment. Williams and Azarenka went head-to-head in the finals of their last tournament too — the Western and Southern Open. Azarenka beat Williams in Cincinnati a few weeks ago, but Williams was able to get revenge this time after winning the US Open title last night: 7-5, 6-7, 6-1. This was her 17th grand slam title!
Today’s men’s final: Nadal came prepared and dominated with a brilliant start, winning the first set 6-2. However, Djokovic showed he’s still in this game, especially after winning a 54-shot rally (the longest rally yet) in the second set — which he won 6-3.
Now Djokovic is up 3-1 in the third set, but it’s still anybody’s game.
Nadal and Djokovic are putting on an incredible game… the aces, dropshots, and long rallies, this game is getting too intense! Who are you rooting for?
